New Orleans is filled to the brim with so many gorgeous locations to get married. As an elopement photographer here, one location that I always get requests for is the Tree of Life!
New Orleans has many great Oak trees, but there is one that stands above the rest for many locals and visitors alike. Located uptown in Audubon park, the Tree of Life is a massive Oak thought to be planted sometime around 1740, making the tree nearly 300 years old. Not only has the tree been around for a long time, but its majestic branches give it an overwhelming and enchanting feeling.
One of the things I love most about the Tree of Life is the symbolism. There’s something really romantic about committing to each other under the canopy of a centuries-old tree that’s seen many bad days and weathered many storms.
Yes!
Things to know: You will need to provide your own officiant and witnesses. There is a maximum guest limit, but otherwise, there aren’t many rules for getting married at the Tree of Life. As always, please be respectful to Audubon Park and other park-goers!
If you are looking to have a reception after your tree of life ceremony, Audubon park does have a venue you can use to host your guests. It is called Audubon Clubhouse. It can hold up to 200 guests and costs $1,000 – $3,500 to rent. This price includes 5 hours for your event.
For your wedding, I recommend arriving at Audubon Park by streetcar and then walking or taking a pedicab to the Tree of Life. Streetcars are an awesome opportunity to see the city, and an iconic way to get some fun candids for your elopement. FYI: You can even rent your own private streetcar for your elopement day!
For more information on renting a streetcar, visit the New Orleans RTA website.
The address of Audubon Park is 6500 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70118.
Absolutely you can! Most of my couples who elope at the Tree of Life usually follow up their ceremony with some time in the French Quarter, the New Orleans Art Museum, Cafe du Monde, or the Garden District.

A few things to talk about here:
The tree is located in a completely outdoor area with very few covered spaces nearby. If you are the type to worry about inclement weather, definitely check the average rainfall for the month you’re planning your elopement and have a plan b, just in case!
Regarding privacy, it’s important to remember that the tree is in a public park where there are people walking their dogs, reading a book, and going for runs.
Evening/sunset times in the park are generally quite busy when the weather is nice out. If you’d rather have a more private ceremony, I recommend considering a sunrise elopement!
Another thing to mention is that there is no official booking of the space for elopements, meaning the area is first-come + first-serve and there could possibly be another elopement or celebration on your wedding day. However in my experience, if two groups show up at the same time people are great about taking turns!

Not only can I capture all of the amazing moments of your day on film, but I’m also here to help with any logistics or planning guidance you might need. I’ve helped many couples plan their perfect elopement in New Orleans and I would love to help you, too!
From recommendations for other elopement vendors, to restaurants, museums, pubs, record stores, breweries, coffee shops and more… I know the city like the back of my hand and love sharing all of my “locals-only” knowledge with my couples so you can create a day even more wonderful than you could’ve imagined!
I hope you have the best time when you get married at the New Orleans Tree of Life!
